Hey, I’m back! Sorry about the post drought. Life came up and roundhouse-kicked me in the face, but what can I say. I’m here.
I’ve been thinking, and if I can’t find the time to post TPT stuff, I should probably at least let you in on what the hell I’m doing with myself over here:
Hey, peeps! So, this weekend is going to be a good one. I’m having a launch party for Forget Me on Friday! It’s pretty much just a family/friend gathering, but it will be bomb 🙂 I will be doing a reading, so I might post a video for you lovely people to enjoy too.
But while I’m having a real-life party, there will be a digital one (of sorts) as well! Because starting tomorrow, June 15th through Friday the 16th, the Kindle version of my debut will be free! Literally. Zero. Zip. Nada. $0. THAAAAT’S RIGHT.
Sometimes finishing a story is like losing a friend. I’ve had the experience when I’ve read other’s books, and I’m sure you know the feeling too. You just read through some serious action-y stuff, things have started to work themselves out in the plot, and now you’re getting to those last few pages. You knew this moment would come. The realization set in for you when your bookmark was exactly midway between the front and back. You tried to put it out of your mind, but now you have to face facts. You have to say goodbye to Richard, the character you related most with, and his clumsy ways. You can’t step into that colorfully-described herb garden anymore. You can never live this story for the first time ever again.
We all have firsts.
The first kiss. Hasn’t happened for me yet. ASK ME WHY.
The first time you try to push a pull-open door. We’re all guilty of it. And if you’ve never, congrats. Have a cookie. *hands you a virtual cookie* On second thought, I could go for a cookie. I am the one who tried to push open a pull-open door. Walk it off, homes, walk it off.
Sorry for the post drought, but life has kinda been kicking me in the pants lately. Like, the kind of in-pants-kicking that makes you have to drag yourself into the weekend, which goes by like a… like a… yeahhhh no. Not getting any
metaphors similes coming to mind… Ehh… You can just fantasize about how great my figures of speech will be in my NaNo story 😉
Hey peeps! So, this weekend is to be an excitingly nerve-wracking one, for me. Why? Because it’s the first time I’m giving a full manuscript I wrote to test readers. Three, to be exact. Sure, a handful of people from my old writing class have read excerpts. But this, this is the first time anyone’s eyes besides mine will read the entire story. It’s scary as heck, but make no mistake: I’m SUPER FREAKING excited and happy 🙂
I got some copies printed at Staples yesterday. The whole ride there I was a nervous wreck: will my flash drive work? did I bring enough cash? will I get in an accident with a smartcar in the parking lot and die in a cloud of smoky doom? Of course, all of my fears were unfounded. I walked out of the store with manuscripts in hand, unscathed and, yes, alive.
Oh my goodness I need coffee.
But certain people don’t think it’s a good idea for me to have any because I get nuts, and because of that heart condition I used to have. I don’t like to drink too much coffee because then I get restless and I get the jitters, and before you know it my body is like “Nerp, you’re not getting any writing done now. You need to go play the same song on the piano like fifty-flippity-bazillion times and then conk out on the couch.”
So I have to plow through anyways even though I don’t feel like writing. And the story that I’m trying to write: I’m mid-chapter and the last time I wrote in this story was a week ago or something because COLLEGE and because LIFE and because HOMEWORK and I’m sucked dry like a seasponge in the burning sun, and kelp and sand and salt and DEAD. KELP. Heh, that’s a funny word… Ehh…
No, really. I haven’t had any coffee. I’m just naturally nuts. Oh, and this is my idea of a freewrite so I can launch myself into my story again like an ultra-super-non-coffee-powered spaceship going to planet Zoltar. EHH EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. EHHHHHHH.
I’m a bookworm. A book freak. Nuts.
What, haven’t I mentioned that before? Hm…
Anyhow, I have self-control around many things. You’re talking to someone who’s been a full-on vegan for about three years. Even before that, if you saw me at Burger King, I’d be eating a salad. Well probably, but that’s not the point. If there’s anyone who knows something about self-control, well… I think I’d at least make the top 50.
But books? Nah. Not even close. Which leads me to my story.
So, I was at the library, just randomly strolling around. I had already borrowed some books, but right before I left, I saw the shelf. It was a little, lonely shelf near the front of the library with discarded books. It was an indoor mini book sale.
I penned up a little six-word story for the Sometimes Stellar Six-Word Storyteller Challenge. The topic was pleasure.
Here’s mine: “You can never have just one.” Ahuh. Hey, it was there 🙂
Don’t forget to hop on over and pick which one you liked the most, which hopefully was mine 😉 Or maybe even lace up your creative chucks and enter yourself!
